Alabama Criminal Record Checks - Do They Really Work?

Alabama criminal records can affect people trying to get into the workforce, but criminal checks can keep employers and fellow employees safe.

What do you do if you have an Alabama criminal record and you need to get back into the work force?

Imagine this is your case: You were a school teacher and convicted of a misdemeanor, and this disqualified you from teaching again. You had dedicated your life to this proffesion. Now what! Do you get depressed? What if you started a new career in sales? What if you found out that you enjoyed it even more than teaching?

The above situation is not uncommon. In fact it is very common. So, is it right to automatically disqualify people from employment because they have some sort of Alabama criminal record? That is a very difficult question to answer based primarily on situations like the above one.

The problem is that life today has become so dangerous. We have no idea who the person next to us is, what he does, or even how he lives. So the natural solution for most businesses is to conduct Alabama criminal record checks before hiring someone. They want to assure that everyone on their work force is safe. Not only that but the surge in law suites against companies for negligent hiring practices has increased, and this is definitely one problem that most companies want to avoid at all cost.

Recently employers have been under scrutiny of major verdicts. Jury verdicts have found companies guilty when they hire someone with a criminal record and that person hurts someone or damages someone. The reason... because the company did not conduct an Alabama criminal record check.

Many people feel that it is a companies legal obligation to perform all necessary checks before they hire someone.

But when looked at from the other perspective, then we see a totally different scenario. It is societies obligation to help people who have a criminal record find employment. Today it is becoming increasingly more and more difficult for someone with an Alabama criminal record to find employment. Unless we really want to have more and more people entering the jail or the food stamp program, someone needs to give these people jobs.

For a person that has a criminal record finding a job can be a real problem. So what is the answer. Its terrible to say, but there is no real answer to the problem. As of yet there is no way of solving this problem that our society faces.

The problem exists no matter what side of the coin you look at. As an employer you don't want to take the risk, and as the employee, the situation can be totally depressing and unfixable. It is time for legislators to find a solution to this never ending problem we have.
